PEEK, also known as polyetheretherketone, is an aromatic semi crystalline linear thermoplastic polymer composed of repeating units of polyaryletherketone. The molecular chain contains functional groups such as benzene rings, ether bonds, and carbonyl groups Here is its specific introduction:
Performance characteristics of PEEK materials
-Mechanical properties: It has high tensile strength, high elastic modulus, high hardness, excellent impact resistance and creep resistance. The bending strength can reach 24MPa at 200 ℃, and the bending strength and compressive strength can reach 12-13 MPa at 250 ℃
-High temperature resistance: melting point of 343 ℃, glass transition temperature of 143 ℃, long-term use temperature of 260 ℃, instantaneous use temperature of 300 ℃, almost no decomposition in a short period of time at 400 ℃, and almost unchanged bending strength after insulation for 3000 hours at 250 ℃
-Wear resistance: It has a certain degree of self-lubricating properties, low friction coefficient, extremely low wear rate, and maintains good tribological performance at 250 ℃
-Corrosion resistance: Excellent resistance to organic solvents, oils, weak acids, and weak bases. Except for concentrated sulfuric acid, it is almost insoluble in other acids, bases, and organic solvents. Its corrosion resistance is similar to that of nickel steel
-Radiation resistance: able to withstand a radiation dose of 1100mrad without sacrificing performance, and resistant to gamma rays and electron beam radiation
-Hydrolysis resistance: maintains low saturation water absorption over a wide temperature range, can resist damage from seawater or high-pressure steam, and can withstand over 1500 steam sterilization cycles at 134 ℃
-Flame retardant performance: The 1.45mm thick sample can reach the highest flame retardant standard UL94V-0 level without the addition of flame retardants. It produces less smoke and toxic gases during combustion and has self extinguishing properties
-Insulation performance: It exhibits high volume resistivity and surface resistivity, with a dielectric constant of 3.2-3.3, a dielectric loss of 0.0016 at 1kHz, a breakdown voltage of 17kV/mm, and an arc resistance of 175V. It can be used as a Class C insulation material
-Biocompatibility: Non toxic, it is the best long-term bone transplant material certified by the US FDA, and implantation in the human body will not cause harmful effects
-Dimensional stability: Small coefficient of thermal expansion, good dimensional stability of the product, close to aluminum metal
-Processing performance: Good high-temperature fluidity, high thermal decomposition temperature, can be processed by various methods such as injection molding, extrusion molding, and compression molding
Preparation method of PEEK materials
There are mainly condensation reactions, which are prepared by equimolar amounts of 4,4 ‘- difluorobenzophenone and hydroquinone in solvent diphenyl sulfone under anhydrous conditions, using sodium containing inorganic salts as catalysts, heating and stirring reactions. In addition, there are also preparation methods such as electrophilic substitution, nucleophilic substitution, hydrolysis, etc
